About Me
Emily Beyerle was born in Centerville, OH. Growing up, Emily’s mom was a baker, meaning she was constantly surrounded by food and sweets. This inspired her to fall in love with baking and the way that food evokes her senses. She has recently graduated from the University of Cincinnati College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning. She is a multidisciplinary artist focused on the interaction of how different stimuli can affect our senses. Emily’s influences stem from her experiences of baking with her mother, the pop art movement, and interactions with her own senses.
Artist Statement
My work deals with interacting with the senses. I use food to connect with my audience and create different textures to play with the viewers’ senses. I am influenced by the way my senses ground me when I feel lost in the universe. My work is a playful way to escape the stresses and anxieties of life. To enact the senses, I work with food and baked goods along with mold making and the application of different materials. Enacting these senses may induce the audience into a comfort coma, stimulating many aspects of the senses and how food interacts with our brains in terms of memories, emotions, and so much more.
